Beautiful watercolor by Nathalie Gontcharova (1881-1962) representing a ballet costume. Watercolor with black pen. Signed bottom left. Belonged to Jeanne Schwarz (1887-1970) and Solange Schwarz (1910-2000) who were principal ballet dancers at the Paris Opera. Nathalie Gontcharova was born Russian and then emigrated to Paris with her husband Larionov . Both were key founders of the Rayonism art movement . She (as well as her husband) designed many costumes for Serge Diaghileff Russian Ballet in the 1920’s. She was one of the main artist of the Russian and French Avant-Gardes.
