Pair of Modernists armchairs by Rene Herbst, 1930s.
Chrome steel tubes (restored chrome), brown bordeaux bakelite seat and back. The bakelite is in very good condition. These armchairs are extremely comfortable.
Rene Herbst is a lead designer of the 1920-1930’s French Modernism. Founder and member of the first of the ‘Union des Artistes Modernes’ (UAM) beside Francis Jourdain and Robert Mallet-Stevens. When the later died Rene Herbst became president of the board. Well known architect-decorator, René Herbst has designed among others prestigious interiors for Princess Aga Khan, art dealer Rosenberg and the Maharadjah of Indore.
