Superbe étude de costume de Ballets Russes par Léon Bakst (1866-1924) signée et datée de 1911.
Ce tableau a été réalisé par Léon Bakst, peintre, illustrateur, mais aussi costumier des Ballets Russes de 1909 à 1921. Il créa des costumes d'inspiration orientale et antique comme le montre cette étude présentant un costume d'archer pour le ballet le Martyre de Saint Sébastien.
L'œuvre a été réalisée avec de la gouache et du graphite sur papier vergé. Elle provient de la collection de la famille d'Armand-Albert Rateau dont le cachet figure au revers du montage avec le numéro d'inventaire.
L'œuvre est signée "Bakst" en partie inférieure à droite.
La peinture est vendue avec son cadre original orné de miroirs.
Une deuxième peinture ( étude de costume d'Aladin) peinte par Bakst de même cadre, taille et provenance est proposée, cela pourrait constituer une magnifique paire.

Beautiful study of a ballet costume by Léon Bakst (1866-1924) signed and dated 1911.
This painting was created by Léon Bakst, painter, illustrator and costume designer for the Russian Ballets from 1909 to 1921. He designed costumes inspirated by oriental and ancient themes, as seen in this study depicting an archer costume for le "Martyr de Saint Sébastien" ("The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian") in 1911.
The artwork was made with gouache and graphite on laid paper. It comes from the Rateau family's collection and their stamp is located on the back of the mounting along with an inventory number.
The signature "Bakst" is on the lower part on the right.

The painting is sold with its old and beautiful frame decorated with mirrors.
A second costume design (Aladdin costume) by Bakst in a similar size, same frame and same provenance is also proposed ; this could constitute a beautiful pair.

LAFUGIE Léa (1890-1972), Portrait d’une jeune Cambodgienne, huile sur panneau, 33 x 23,5 cm Léa Lafugie est une peintre française née à Paris, connue pour ses portraits et paysages issus de ses voyages. Elle étudie à l’Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, puis à l’Académie des Beaux-Arts et commence sa carrière en exposant au Salon des Artistes Indépendants. Passionnée depuis son plus jeune âge par les récits de voyages et d’aventures,elle décide de partir dès 1924 en Afrique du Nord, puis en 1925 en Asie. Elle séjourne en Inde, en Birmanie, au Tibet, puis dans la péninsule indochinoise et en extrême Orient. Durant ces voyages, elle ne cesse de peindre et de représenter ce qu’elle découvre et les personnes qu’elle rencontre. Ce portrait a été réalisé lors d’un voyage au Cambodge, il représente une jeune fille concentrée sur son ouvrage. De ce portrait émane une grande douceur et sérénité. Beautiful reclining female nude by Micao Kono (1900-1979). Oil on paper pasted on canvas. Signed and dated XXXIII (33) in red bottom left. Dimension: 46 x 38cm (without frame), 52 x 44cm (with frame) Miçao Kono was a Japanese artist who came to Paris in the early 1920s. He painted in oils and watercolors, and also did a number of etchings. Micao Kono became famous with his nude portraits combining traditional Japanese style with the modernity of the Art Deco. His paintings were very popular in the Art Deco interiors. They were romantic and sensuous; his work is close to his Japanese fellow countryman Foujita. Kono’s technique was unusual as he used heavy white over which her painted his subject in pastel colors. Either by design or by the passage of time the white paint always shows signs of cracking.
